Pie & Mash Please!

Evening all!

So I started back at work on 3rd July and so far, it’s been ok! I thought it would take me ages to adjust, but as dumpling is staying with his Grandma (my MIL) during the day, that’s probably helped me adjust a lot.

Anywho, my new hours are 9.15-3.15 with Wednesday off as that’s when Dumpling has his swimming lesson. So hubs and I are trying to make the most of Wednesday before the kids break up for the summer hols!

Today, we decided we’d take Dumpling to Danson Park in Bexleyheath, for a run around since that’s what he loves doing at home🤦🏽‍♀️

After swimming lesson, Dumpling usually has a 2-2 1/2 hr nap, so once he’d woken up, had a bath and some lunch, we headed out at about 2:30.

By then, we were MARVIN! I mean ravenous. So we decided to stop first for a late lunch at Danson Stables – a lovely quintessential English pub backing right on to Danson Park and Danson House.

As with most pubs, you pic a table on entry and take a seat to look at the menu; then you take note of your table number and go up to the till to place your order.

I usually go for fish & chips but today I was HANGRY so I opted for a yummy-sounding Beef & Double Gloucester Pie. Hubs went for the sow roasted Lamb Shank and for Dumpling we ordered a side of creamy mash since he’d already had lunch before we left.

We only had to wait about 20 minutes for our food to arrive after ordering, which I thought was very good service.

When our food arrived we were sooooo happy because we were more than ready to tuck in! The food was presented in a lovely manner as everything was piping hot. There were plenty of veggies and just the right amount of mash. My pie was a traditional shortcrust pastry pie and stuffed full of succulent beef chunks and gravy. The gravy was served separately in a jar and was a divine red wine based gravy.

Hubs Lamb Shank fell off the bone and Dumpling loved sampling our plates as well as tucking into his mash and some of my veg.

For dessert (yes, we had dessert!) I went for a mini plate of 3 profiteroles and hubs went for his homely fave, Apple Crumble and Custard.

We were so impressed with the quality of the food and service at Danson Stables, we were already planning our next visit and what we are going to order when we go!

After a hearty lunch, the three of us, full bellies in tow, headed towards the park.

We stayed there for about 35 mins until Dumpling had knackered himself out running around all over the place. He absolutely loved the open space there. In the summer months, there is a massive slash park set up for little ones to have fun splashing about in the Park!

If you’re around the South London/Kent area and fancy a day out with the family, to include a hearty dose of grub, I’d definitely recommend a trip to Danson Stables and Danson Park. If you have time, a trip to Danson House is a must, too! If you do go, let me know what you think 👌🏾😉
