One of the hardest adjustments I’ve had to make since becoming a mum, is remembering to eat.
That sounds odd, especially since I often think about what I am going to eat next before I’ve finished what I am eating! But, as most new mums would tell you, once you have finished bathing baby, changing baby, feeding baby, burping baby, playing with baby and then putting baby down for a nap (that’s if indeed, baby will even nap!), several hours may have passed and before you know it, its lunchtime and you haven’t even had breakfast!
Anyone who knows me, knows that hunger and I are not good friends so it is something that I do my utmost to avoid at all costs.
My favourite breakfast is pancakes and bacon – but ain’t nobody got time for that of a morning. My second favourite breakie is a warming, hearty bowl of almond milk oats topped with raisins, honey and almond butter. But, sometimes I don’t even have time to make a simple bowl of porridge.
For those mornings where I find myself short on time and on the verge of hanger, I turn to my morning saviour – the Oatmeal Smoothie. All you need is 1/2 a cup of your favourite porridge oats, a cup of your favourite milk (mine is almond milk), a frozen banana and a handful of your favourite berry (mine are blueberries or strawberries), a NutriBullet or similar blender and 5 minutes later, you have a delicious and filling smoothie that you can drink on the go without worrying about it getting cold after sorting out baby’s latest bum explosion!
Don’t get me wrong, I am lucky that my little dumpling is quite chilled and so most mornings I do get to enjoy my porridge. But, on those mornings where we’re up early for swimming lessons or Baby Sensory (I will blog about this soon!) these smoothies are king (continuing the Sade theme here :-D).
If you like smoothies and oats, you’ll love these creamy, fruity and nutritious nectars. No longer are there any excuses for skipping the most important meal of the day.
